Shows are for the cinema, for the theater...
being first

"I like being first," Bilardo said on his website. "You have to think about being first. Because second is no good, being second is a failure. ... For me, it's good that if you lose you should feel bad. Football is played to win. ... Shows are for the cinema, for the theater. ... Football is something else. Some people are very confused." The turf under his feet

Gary Lineker: "When we played Argentina at the 1986 World Cup, nobody else could control the ball because the Azteca Stadium pitch had been relaid into small chunks and the turf moved under your feet whenever you started running.
Yet Maradona was able to dribble from the halfway line and score. Lord knows what he would be capable of today on the modern bowling green pitches." Read more here.

Who would have thought?
Maradona, Pele & Zidane

Well Diego was four and a half hours late to the Annie Leibovitz shoot for Louis Vuitton so what you can see is a photomontage of the stars in Cafe Maravillas bar in Madrid.
Watch a preview of the live match here.

You can't touch me as an artist
(You can't beat me as a huckster)

"Like a musician given the chance to speak to the resurrected Mozart, Lineker spoke reverentially just so delighted to be breathing the same air."

The killer - Mario Kempes (retro toy)
El Matador

Antique, vintage toys are real collectors items and I especially search for football and sporting memorabilia.
In 1978 Argentina hosted and won the world cup beating the Netherlands 3-1. Mario Kempes was the no. 10 for the sky blue and whites and the man to beat. He was named by Pelé as one of the top 125 greatest living footballers in March 2004. Vamos matador!

El Superclasico
River v Boca
Great ad, shame there isn't more to be said from the perspective of the River Plate fan. Having been at many of these superclasicos, it is a mesmerising experience. What do you think? I know Diego would be proud to have Italian immigrant Pascual Tatangelo speak of his love for the international classic game!

Maradona never played here but invariably as a man who always projects himself on and off the pitch without contrition (especially where England is concerned), he might have cherished the opportunity. Read an article here on a press conference of his visit to Scotland in November 2008 as the newly designated coach to Argentina. Twinkle in his eye, El Diego never fails to project himself in front of the flashbulbs as a man with effortless flair!

the most unbelievable goal of the century by Diego Maradona

This is the best translation I have found so far here:
…passes the ball to Diego, now Maradona with the ball, two people on him, Maradona touches the ball, the genius of soccer heads to the right, and leaves the third and passes to Burruchaga…Always Maradona! Genius! Genius! Genius! ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta… GOAL!! GOAL!!!
I am going to cry! Oh, my God! How beautiful soccer is! What a goal! Diego! Maradona!
I am crying, forgive me please… Maradona, with a memorable run, with the most beautiful play of all time… cosmic podge…. which planet are you from? You let it seem so easy, and the whole country is a closed fist, is screaming for Argentina… Argentina 2 - England 0…

Metegol in Buenos Aires
The game was first patented in the 1920s by an Englishman who wanted to replicate the game of football at home.
I found this table en el Mercado de Pulgas
on my latest trip to Buenos Aires and is part of my latest venture.
El Gol que Grito el Pais

Sometime as an 11 year old
“Mis sueños son dos. Mi primer sueño es jugar en el Mundial. Y el segundo es salir campeon en el Mundial” (I have two dreams. My first dream is to play in the World Cup and the second is to win the World Cup).
